Family Lines    Michael Walsh

A professional Irish genealogy and family history research service based in Ireland

I offer a professional Irish Genealogy and Family History research service from my base in Ireland. My aim is to help people in North America and Britain and elsewhere who are tracing their Irish ancestors but need a little help here in Ireland. I am a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG).

After graduating from University College London, I worked in IT for several large British and American companies in senior project management roles. More recently, I have become involved in developing and presenting IT training courses in Ireland.

During my life I developed a keen interest in genealogy and spent a lot of my spare time unravelling my own Irish and English family history across Co. Armagh and Co. Clare in Ireland and Lancashire in England.

After retiring, I established Family Lines to help people discover more about their Irish roots.

My business career has given me a set of skills that are particularly useful in modern genealogical research. I have a very logical approach, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent reporting skills, good attention to detail and the ability to think laterally. I am also blessed with patience and a good sense of humour and have often needed both!

My speciality is tracing Irish families who left for the USA, Great Britain and elsewhere, bringing research results together and presenting them in a single integrated family history story.

I also help people with Irish connections who are researching their own family tree but because they do not live in Ireland need a reliable person to help out on the ground. Since I am based in Ireland, I am well placed to undertake local research for people, such as visiting archives and undertaking document searches.

I offer a range of professional Irish genealogy services from searching for a particular record in an archive in Ireland to a commission for researching and delivering a comprehensive family history package.

For those who are unsure what help they need and want to discuss the possiblities, I offer a free no-obligation Consultation.

Tracing your family history in Britain
I offer a comprehensive family history research service for those whose ancestors emigrated from Ireland to Great Britain and are keen to trace their Irish roots. Family ancestries can be traced in both Ireland and Britain and the results brought together to maintain a single family tree.

On location research and photography
I offer to visit locations anywhere on the island of Ireland to undertake specific genealogy research. This may be to track down and record inscriptions on a family grave headstone, to check a school location or to see if a dwelling is still standing or a farm still exists.

Irish Genealogical tours
I organise guided tours anywhere in Ireland to visit where your ancestors lived and are buried and other places of family interest. This can be scheduled to be undertaken during a holiday to allow time to visit historical sites and enjoy a little Irish hospitality and culture. This is ideal for visitors and allows genealogical research to be easily combined with a vacation in Ireland.

I can undertake an assignment to verify and document information about a particular ancestor and to provide a solid foundation for more detailed genealogical research while determining what research options have a good possibility of success.
