Research for Warwickshire, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Kent,
We offer a comprehensive research service for those wanting to explore their ancestors in the West Midlands. The area comprises the counties of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire & Worcestershire and includes Birmingham and the Black Country. We specialise in those highlighted.
Each area presents its own interests and challenges to the researcher. The Black country contained a large number of non-conformist churches for example and the only way to trace some people is to examine the original church notebooks. The records for the area are also not as centralised as in some regions & it is often necessary to visit several record repositories to trace individuals in the area.
In Worcestershire a large proportion of the population in the 19th Century were farmers and farm labourers, and discerning the relevent entries for a common surname amongst all the familiar ' Ag Lab ' entries in the records can be a challenge. And many of the birth, marriage & death records for some small villages that should have made there way to the General Records Office in London never did so. They don't appear in the on-line GRO Indexes & can only be found by searching the original church registers.
In some cities, like Coventry in Warwickshire, for example, there are so many churches in the registration district that the inexperienced researcher often has to resort to purchasing several expensive GRO marriage certificates just to find the one they need.
But we can often reduce the time and therefore expense of dealing with these problems because of our many years experience and the unique database of indexes that we have constructed over the years.
Every enquiry is unique and represents a challenge. If you have ancestors in the West Midlands area that you would like to explore email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us explain how we may be able to help you. Or visit our website at www.familyhistory4me.org.uk
