Three Shires Genealogy

Family and local history research in the English counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire

Welcome to Three Shires Genealogy

Tracing your roots is one of the most fascinating and rewarding roads you can travel. If your journey takes you through the English counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire or Staffordshire we can help.

We’ve been researching genealogy and local history across the Three Shires for more than twenty years, and have traced Three Shires families for their descendants around the globe.

We use a wide range of local archives and specialised resources (including our own collection of books, diaries, letters and photographs) to find the best-hidden pieces of the past.

So whether you’d like information on a specific individual or event, a bit of help with brick walls in your own research – and here at Three Shires we love a challenge! – or your whole ancestry traced as far back as you can go, call us or fill in the Enquiry form on the website for a no-obligation chat.

Our fees are straightforward: the initial consultation is free then our time is charged at £18 an hour. Any extra costs – for example copies of documents or travel outside our usual limits – will be agreed with you in advance. We’ll never exceed the budget you give us.

Three Shires Plus

Have a look to see if any of your name interests crops up in our indexes.
They include names from a range of sources – wills, personal diaries and letters, rare books, court documents, and so on.

If you’d like to know more than just names and dates, we can produce
wider profiles of the countryside, towns and industries of the Three Shires
to give you as full a picture as possible of the day-to-day lives of your family.

Maybe you’re writing a book or producing a television programme? We can provide
in-depth research into your specific areas of interest in the Three Shires.

Photography – from the drama of the Dark Peak to the industrial landscapes of the Potteries and the farming communities of the Cheshire Plain, we can provide a pictorial record of the places your ancestors lived and worked. Also, houses, schools, churches and other places of importance to your family.

Perhaps you’d like to get even closer to your ancestors and pay a visit to the Three Shires. We can devise your own personal itinerary, taking in the sights of significance to you, as well as other major tourist attractions you should really see while you’re here. We can also advise on travel and arrange accommodation if required.

Gift certificates – buy some research time for anyone who’d like to start their own adventure – and remember they can do the same for you!
