In Ireland, research will be conducted in the following
archives. Not only will you gain access to the research of a skilled Irish

  • Genealogical Office, 2 Kildare Street, Dublin.

    Genealogical pedigrees and family history manuscripts are housed here. This
    museum focuses on the uses of heraldry. Exhibits include shields, banners,
    coins, paintings, porcelain, and stamps depicting coats of arms. More info -

  • General Register Office, Dublin [Oifig an Árd Chláraitheora]

    Civil registration (birth, marriage, death) beginning in 1864. More info -

  • National Archives of Ireland, Dublin [An Chartlann Náisiúnta]

    Many manuscript materials relating to Irish history and genealogy including
    surviving censuses, freeholders lists, wills, estate papers and

  • National Library of Ireland, Dublin [Leabharlann Náisiúnta
    na hÉireann] Roman Catholic parish registers, published works on Irish
    history and genealogy, and manuscripts such as estate papers and freeholders

  • Registry of Deeds, Dublin [Chárlann na Talún &
    Chárlann na nGíomhas] Memorials of deeds relating to property in Ireland
    beginning in 1708. More info -

  • Representative Church Body Library, Dublin Church of
    Ireland parish registers and other records. More info -

  • Trinity College Library, Dublin This is the largest
    research library in Ireland and it contains many manuscripts, including
    landed estate papers of Irish landlords. More info -

    [Roinn na gCartlann] Additional estate papers, Irish Folklore Commission

    Post-1922 civil registration for Northern Ireland. More info -

  • Linen Hall Library, Belfast Northern Ireland Genealogies,
    books, newspapers, newspaper indexes. Library was founded in 1788 and is the

  • Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland, Belfast Maps
    useful in going "on site" to find homesites in the countryside.
