SOMERSET: most of the original records for Somerset are held in the Somerset Heritage Centre near Taunton. They include parish registers, bishop's transcripts, wills, property deeds and many more. The Heritage Centre also holds the collection of material formerly in the Somerset Studies Library. There are further collections of Somerset records in the city record offices of Bristol and Bath.
WILTSHIRE: most of the original records are kept in the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Chippenham this is also the Diocesan Record Office, so it is home to a large collection of original wills proved within the Salisbury Diocese which includes other counties.
DORSET: most of the original records for Dorset are held in the Dorset History Centre in Dorchester; this now includes material formerly held in the local studies centre as well as the Dorset archives. Many Dorset records are now available to view via Ancestry. Whilst this is an excellent resource, it should be used with caution as very many errors and omissions have come to light. The Wills Indexed on Ancestry do not include those Dorset wills held in the Diocesan Record Office in Wiltshire.
Family histories cross county boundaries, so I am also familiar with the records of the surrounding counties including Gloucestershire, Devon, Cornwall and Hampshire
