Philadelphia Genealogical & Historical Research, Kenneth Milano

What I Have Done:

Kenneth W. Milano is a researcher with many years’ experience in the history of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods of Fishtown and Kensington, as well as the metropolitan area of Philadelphia. Along with Rich Remer and Torben Jenk, he helped to found the Kensington History Project, a community based historical group, which researches, lectures, and publishes on the history of Kensington and Fishtown. Ken is the author of “John Hewson; Kensington’s Revolutionary War Hero,” published in the Historical Society of Pennsylvania’s “Pennsylvania Legacies, November 2002,” and co-author with Rich Remer of “Kensington and the Founding of Philadelphia (1681-1800),” published in “Kensington History; Stories and Memories,” published by Brighton Press, 1996. In May of 2008 Ken's first book length project was published by The History Press, the title being "Remembering Kensington & Fishtown." Ken is a member of Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, the National Genealogical Society, and the Association of Professional Genealogists.

Mr. Milano taught G.E.D. and English as a Second Language for 8 years, while also being an event speaker for numerous historical topics on Kensington/Fishtown history. He has spoken at the University of Pennsylvania, Community College of Phildelphia, and the Free Library of Philadelphia. He is a graduate of Temple University's History Department, where he specialized in American History and received a Bachelor’s Degree in 1995, graduating “cum laude.” Ken is married to the former Dorina Lala, of Fier, Albania, and has two children, Francesco & Salvatore.

Ken also has a 20-year history in the rare and scholarly bookselling business. He currently is contracted with the bookselling firm of Michael Brown, Rare Americana, LLC., in Philadelphia, where he catalogues rare Americana books, manuscripts, and ephemera. He had previously worked for eight years at the distinguished bookselling firm of William H. Allen, of Philadelphia, specializing in the Greek & Latin classics.
