When searching any
database, you must determine what information is provided. The 1901 Canadian
census images are available online, but the images are difficult to read and in some cases it is not clear what the columns mean. To help identify the
information it is useful to print out the blank census forms at FamilySearch.com.
Blank forms are available for
1851,
1861,
1871&1881,
1891, and
1901. The Ontario GenWeb also has blank census forms at
http://ontariocensus.rootsweb.ancestry.com

I like the idea of the volunteer 1901-1906
census indexing project at ◊automatedgenealogy.com. This site presents the volunteer with the census
image and an input form on the same page. The volunteer looks at the screen at
the top of the page and types in the form at the bottom of the page. Nice job!

Much of the 1901 census and some of the 1891
census are indexed, but are available only by subscription for a fee at
Ancestry.com.
