Genealogy, family history and archive research in East Anglia

With a PhD in History, over 30 years’ membership of the Society of Genealogists, and Associate Membership of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives, I have experience in researching many types of family history resources.

Based near Wisbech, I am ideally placed to visit several County Record Offices, and the Wisbech and Fenland Museum holds records for local fenland towns and villages in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Lincolnshire. I can carry out research in the following County Record Offices:

Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire.

Further afield, I can also travel to the following County Record Offices:

Essex, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, Suffolk

as well as the major London archives:

• British Museum
• Guildhall Library
• London Metropolitan Archives
• National Archives, Kew
• Society of Genealogists

Everyone’s family history is unique. My academic training and extensive experience enables me to maximize the wealth of data which can seem daunting.
I have experience in researching many types of family history resources, including:

· civil registration of births, marriages and deaths back to 1837
· census returns (1841-1911)
· military service records open to public access (pre-WWII)
· wills
· parish registers of baptisms, marriages and burials
· manorial court records (back to sixteenth century and beyond)
. taxation records.

I also offer a transcription service for old documents.

I welcome enquiries from outside the UK and can provide tailor-made searches to suit your requirements.

My search charges are £17 per hour plus expenses. One hour's consultation £20 if you wish to carry out your own research; free if you subsequently use my services. Transcription at 5 pence per word.
